The herbal history of Ganoderma Lucidum is described in the oldest Chinese pharmacopoeia, Shen Nong's Herbal Classic. It has been traditionally used in Chinese medicine to support vitality and longevity. The Cordyceps mushroom is mostly known as Dong Chong Xia Cao or Chinese Caterpillar Fungus, also known as Summer Grass. It is also referred to as Aweto in China and Tibet, and Yarchagumba in Tibet. In English, it is known as “Caterpillar Fungus” or “Vegetable Caterpillar.” Active components of the Cordyceps mushroom include cordycepic acid, cordycepin, nucleosides, polysaccharides, proteins, sterols, and similar compounds.
